April 22, 2024

Waheed Ahmed (Former Ambassador):

The timing of the visit of Iranian President to Pakistan is very important as leadership of both the countries have desire and resolve to strengthen bilateral relations between both the countries. Moreover, the visit of the Iranian president is a signal to regional players that Pakistan and Iran have deep-rooted friendship in terms of cultural ties, economic relations, agricultural trade and others. Pakistan is an energy deficient country whereas Iran has great reserves of gas and oil. So, Iran can support Pakistan to a great extent in overcoming the energy crises. The Pak-Iran gas pipeline project is completed from the Iranian side but economic hardships are the main hurdle in completion of the project on the Pakistan side.

Both the countries are determined to take the bilateral trade volume to 10 billion dollars in the next few years. Iran can also be a part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project. So the visit can be fruitful and it will send a great message to the world that both the Islamic countries are on the same page as far as regional issues are concerned. Basically, developed countries are responsible for a significant increase in the emission of greenhouse gases. So, it is the responsibility of these developed nations to compensate for the sufferings of the developing countries as these countries are paying the price of their development. The world needs to pay attention to the countries where climate change is creating devastating impacts. The incumbent government is paying keen attention to minimize the impacts of climate change. The Prime Minister in his special message urged the nation to reduce the use of plastics, embrace recycling and eco-friendly alternatives and advocate for stronger environmental policies at every level of society. The government is taking bold and decisive steps to confront these challenges and build resilience in the face of adversity
